Make people feel Good... Let's NOT!

As I’m reading a devotional with my son I encounter something “ off” in this small devotional for boys.  It made me question, What are we teaching our Kiddos?!

Our Job as followers of Jesus is not to make people feel “good” That has never been the goal. Not for us, not for others I believe the devotional was written with good intentions, but we

need to teach our Kiddos and ourselves that the mission is holiness and dying to self to become more like the one who gave His life for our sake.

Not to make people happy or feel good, nor ourselves. We can not be driven by emotions at all. Emotions can be deceiving, the bible says

"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?"

Jeremiah 17:9

The devotional talk about being Kind and not saying hurtful things… AGREED!

The position of our heart should never be to hurt others, and we need to be Kind. But not to the goal of making others feel "good”. As we speak biblical, think biblical, and take biblical actions, we must prepare our kids and youth to speak TRUTH! Even if it means that someone will not feel “good” when listening to the truth.

The word of God can be convicting and, at times, hard to listen to, especially when it deals with our wrongdoing. And yes, even when we say it kindly,  it is not always received the same way. And not because someone may not feel “good” at the moment of the conversation, that doesn't mean we shouldn't speak up.  The goal is never to make someone feel good but to speak the truth that will bring people closer to God. Not based on feelings or opinion but on truth…AKA the word of God (the Bible)

Am I reading too deeply into it? (I'll let you read it yourself)

Maybe, but we have been entrusted with these kiddos, and one day we will be held accountable for what we taught them. These are God's children before ours, and I don’t know about you, but that’s a heavy responsibility. And I’m not talking only about your own kids. I'm talking about the kids at the church, in your community, at the school, in the stores.. You get the picture.

It's SO important that we explain, teach, AND MODEL this concept to our Kiddos. We want them to first and foremost have a personal relationship with Jesus and to think biblically, no matter who is around them.

Jesus and the word (the Bible) should be there and our #1 source of influence and knowledge. I pray that as you read this, your heart is encouraged to take this walk deeper, knowing that we are in a real spiritual battle. A real spiritual enemy is trying to destroy our kids, our families, and ourselves, but like I have said before, we have the victory in Jesus.

Love,
Lilly💗
